What Is Chiropody & Podiatry?
Chiropodists specialise in assessing, diagnosing and treating disorders, abnormalities and diseases of the upper and lower limbs. They undergo intensive training in order to prevent, treat and correct these disorders and provide professional advice on proper foot care to patients of all ages and abilities.
Chiropodists offer many services, including:
- Treatment of dermatological and foot related problems such as corns, dry cracked heels, smelly feet, verrucas, in-growing toenails, and fungal infections.
- Treatment and management of long-term, chronic problems and disorders
- The management of foot problems and deformities caused by other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes
- Advice and treatment for people who are at high risk of foot problems and amputations - for example; sufferers of diabetes
- Therapeutic techniques, such as minor surgery using local anaesthesia
- Cross referral to other health care professionals such as chiropractors, orthopaedic specialists, GP's and health visitors, in order to ensure the best level of care for each individual patient
- Help and advice, as well as treatment for a wide range of conditions from ankle sprains to tendonitis
